Fall E.T.C. Classes

  • Green Thumbs

    Exploring, creating, splashing, planting, and experimenting in the award-winning Woodland Garden! I am excited about spending time with your children as they learn about nature and grow as respectful stewards of the earth. I invite your child to participate in this 6-week outdoor learning experience.

    The Gardeners Club

    Exploring, creating, digging,splashing, planting, and experimenting. I invite your children to participate in an exhilarating outdoor learning experience! They will learn to plan, create, tend, harvest, and implement garden projects in our award-winning Woodland garden. 

    Days: Mondays, August 29 - October 17

    Little Doctor School

    The first class will be from 3:30-5:30. The remaining classes will be from 3:30-4:40.

    Class 1: What's up Doc? Students will role play a doctor. perform a physical exam, and use real medical tools.

    Class 2: All about the heart! Students will explore the primary function of the heart and use a real stethoscope.

    Class 3: All about the lungs! Students will learn about the respiratory system and perform lung function tests.

    Class 4: Digesting Digestion! Students will explore the digestion system and learn each part of the digestion process.

    Class 5: Is there a surgeon in the house? Students will role play a surgeon, learn about proper scrubbing, suturing, and tying surgical knots.

    Class 6: Doctor fun and Graduation: Students will learn about medical school and graduate with a Little Doctor School diploma.

    Girls Can Code

    Girls will learn to see themselves as computer scientists, build sisterhood in a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models, learn about other women in tech from around the world and learn the fundamental computer science concepts that form the basis for all programming languages.

    Days: Tuesdays, August 30- October 4

    Grades: 3rd - 5th

    Chess Club

    Students in chess club will learn the foundations of the game while also deepening their understanding of chess strategies and tactics. They will learn to play competitively and fairly with other club members while their own skills grow and their knowledge of both the game and their own abilities deepens.

    A.C.T.I.O.N.

    A.C.T.I.O.N. (Art, Choir, Theater in one night) is conducted by Woodland Presbyterian Church. A performing arts group sponsored by Woodland Presbyterian Church meets every Wednesday in the church choir room. We learn songs, create art projects, and present a musical each December and May. 

    If you register and your child is in After School Care, we will get them to A.C.T.I.O.N. each Wednesday.

    Obstacle Mania

    Jump! Duck! Roll! Climb! Swing!

    Each class will start with fun aerobic warm- ups and stretches. We will split into small groups to work on the skills needed in their obstacle course for the day. Then, we will put it together for the Mania! A stamp or sticker will be awarded at the end of class for parents to know that their child attended.

    Art Academy

    The very popular E.T.C. class, Art Academy, is on again this semester! Your student will be working with clay these six (6) weeks. They will be molding, shaping, designing, painting, and firing their fabulous creations!

    Day: Thursdays, September 1- October 6
    Time: 3:30-4:30
    Grades: 1st - 5th

    Music with Ben

    Music lessons are private, 30-minute, weekly lessons scheduled through Ben Staton. Ben, a Woodland alumni, has studied guitar since he was ten years old. He has since branched out into many different instruments, including electric guitar, bass, piano, and ukulele! He is working on a bachelor's degree in Music Composition from the University of Memphis, where he received the Smit Award for Composition. He is excited to share his love of music and to hopefully inspire young musicians to be the best they can be! The fee covers the cost of initial instruction materials. Any lessons missed due to the instructor's illness or schedule will be made up as soon as possible.

    3rd and 4th Grade Homework Room

    Does your student need a quiet place to complete homework assignments? If so, 3rd and 4th grade "Homework Room" is your answer!  Conducted by a Woodland teacher for any needed help, Mrs. Vollmer will go over spelling words, answer questions, and allow students to do their homework in a quiet environment. This is NOT a tutoring session or a class to check every answer on their homework assignments. The teacher will pick up students from after school care and return them after class.

    Cost: $10 a visit (billed monthly through Blackbaud Tuition Management)


    Middle School Homework Room

    Does your student need a quiet place to complete homework assignments? If so, Middle School "Homework Room" is your answer! Conducted by a middle school teacher, this is a quiet environment to get the assignments completed each afternoon. After School Care will send your student to "Homework Room" after they have had a snack and then they will return when class has ended.

    Note: "Homework Room" does not meet the first Wednesday of each month.

After School Care 2022-2023

    Below is a list of E.T.C. classes and you may register for these using the button on the right of this page.

    B. E. A. M. S. Each week an ASC class will have a Book Day, Exercise Day, Arts & crafts Day, Movie Day, and a Stem Activity Day. One each day of the week. 

    ASC Pick Up: Four parking signs are located in the parking lot in front of the Haygood Gym entrance. Please park and text the ASC phone number listed below with the child's name, grade, and make of car. You may proceed through the Haygood Gymnasium entrance, down the stairs, and to the right to the ASC desk to sign your student out for the day.

    3rd & 4th Grade Homework Room will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. 3rd graders and 4th graders will be in a designated room. Cost is $10 a visit and must be registered to attend. Students will be dismissed to the designated classroom. Classes will begin in September. Sign-up will be through Active.com. Senior Kindergarten teacher Kimberly Vollmer will be conducting the class. 

    5th- 8th Grade Homework Room will be Monday-Thursday from 3:30-4:30. Students will work in a quiet environment that will be monitored by middle school teacher Julie Sully. She will assist students with homework, keeping a daily and weekly agenda, and study skills. Cost is $10 a visit and students must be registered to attend. Students will be dismissed to the designated classroom. Sign-up will be through Active.com. 

    ETC Classes: Here are a few examples of classes that will be offered: Art Academy, Green Thumbs and Garden Club, Little Wings (music program), Little Medical School, and Guitar with Ben Staton. Registration will be available online through Active.com.
