Lower School at Woodland Presbyterian School
Lower school students are immersed in an environment where confidence, independence, and responsibility are developed. Teachers are looking for opportunities to develop critical thinking and foster positive social interactions. Our program incorporates the Handwriting Without Tears program for handwriting. The core subjects are listed below:
- Math, math facts, computation, manipulatives, abstract applications
- Reading, sight words, phonics, decoding skills, and comprehension
- Grammar, mechanics, vocabulary, spelling, and writing
- Science and Social Studies
As part of the Lower School program, in addition to the core curriculum, your child experiences hands-on learning in Spanish, art, library, Bible, physical education, and discovery science. Woodland students take great pride in all of our traditions, including class plays, science fair, art show, field day, Grandparents’ Day and our Christmas program.
Woodland Presbyterian School has a distinctively designed curriculum that is developed on four solid principles. Our curriculum is:
Child centered which allows us to meet each individual student and move them forward to the next level.
Knowledge based so that the curriculum offers a firm foundation of skills in order to give each child what is essential for productivity at the next level while applying, analyzing, and evaluating deeper concepts.
Cycling in order to allocate ample opportunity to perfect concepts by exposing children frequently to objectives that typically pose a challenge.
Ever-changing to facilitate current and meaningful content for all our students.
