Welcome to Senior Kindergarten with Ms. Joyner and Mrs. Schwartz!

Senior Kindergarten at Woodland Presbyterian School is a community of learners who play and work through various activities that further develop their skills and enhance their natural curiousity.  We build on basic phonics skills to develop each learner's reading ability.  Senior Kindergarteners participate in math, science, social studies, handwriting and special classes.  Our goal is to expand their ability to get along with others and learn the skills necessary to be successful lifelong learners.

Extra Help Time

  • If we feel that your child would benefit from some extra time working on a skill or concept with Ms. Joyner, time will be set aside Wednesday mornings at 7:30. The time will be used to work with children as needed for a variety of activities. It may be one-on-one or with a small group, depending on a variety of factors.  The work session location will be the classroom. Ms. Joyner will make arrangements with the parent on an individual basis. Thank you!

About Teacher

Miss Jennifer Joyner

Degrees and Certifications:

Miss Jennifer Joyner

I am so glad to have you and your child as a part of my classroom this year.

I was born and raised in Memphis.  While attending Shelby State Community College and the University of Memphis, I earned an Associates of Science in Business Technologies, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Instruction and Curriculum.

I am beginning my twenty-first year of teaching, of which nineteen years have been at Woodland.  This is my seventh year as a Senior Kindergarten teacher after spending twelve years in second and third grades at WPS.  I am the proud aunt of two Woodland graduates...Cody Semler, Class of 2003 and Kailtyn Semler, Class of 2007.

Away from school, I enjoy lots of different activities including reading, cooking, trying new restaurants, movies, listening to music, watching college sports, walking, and time with my family and friends.  I am an avid dog lover and I have two four-legged fur babies (Yorkies Gabbi and Oliver) at home.

I too am excited about joining the Woodland Team and being assigned as Miss Joyner's Kindergarten Assistant.  I was very blessed to fulfill a few interim positions at Woodland this past year in 3rd and 2nd grades as well as filling in as a substitute for other grade levels.

In 2015, I retired from the public school system consisting of 20 years from Dyersburg/Dyer County Schools,  1 year with Tipton County Schools, and 10 years with Shelby County/Memphis Schools.  I worked with a different private school after retiring for a couple of years, and then joined Woodland Presbyterian last year.  I feel I have been truly blessed to join Miss Joyner this year, and look forward to a wonderful and very exciting school year.

When not in school I share a home with my husband, Mike Schwartz, my daughter, Alli, and my fur kids, Maggie, Zee, Zoe, and Sam (dog and 3 cats!)

I enjoy gardening, swimming, being a Grizzly fan, and listening to music every chance I get!  Thanks for stopping by, have a blessed day!!
