  • The Arts at WPS

Woodland School offers visual arts, music class, chorus, instrumental music, and theatre in order to provide students with a core base of study in the fine arts. The study of the creative process provides students with a means to appreciate the culture and understand each person’s unique gifts. Artistic expression is encouraged in all areas of our program.

Arts, Music, & Theatre

  • Arts

Students in grades SK-6th have a scheduled art class within their 6-day schedule. This includes pottery, mixed media, drawing, painting, chalk drawings, and art history. Students in grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to select an art elective by the semester. Their wonderful pieces adorn local art contests as well as our annual art show.

    Music

Music learning takes place through active participation, so our youngest students begin studying music and movement.  A student’s music appreciation is developed through vocal and instrumental experiences. Students in grades Pre-Kindergarten - Sixth Grade displays their talents regularly at the various school programs, including our Grandparent’s Day program, the annual Christmas program, as well as the Fifth and Sixth Grade Chapel Performances. Students in the seventh and eighth grades have a choice in their selection of a fine art course each semester.

    Theatre

An important part of the tradition at Woodland is its annual class plays. Each year, students in JK through the fourth-grade stage a play complete with costumes and scenery. Even the PK students perform in small groups for their parents. The variety of the productions is endless, but favorite annual traditions are the First Grade Thanksgiving Feast and the fourth grade Hawaiian Luau program. The natural culmination of our drama program is the middle school spring production, with both daytime and evening performances.
