Woodland Presbyterian School is an independent, co-educational day school serving two year olds through eighth grade. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and is a member of that organization as well as the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS) and the Memphis Association of Independent Schools (MAIS).

Woodland began operation on its present site as a kindergarten in 1956. The school expanded through the elementary grades in 1973, adding seventh and eighth grades in 1974. In response to growing enrollment and increasing demand for space, the 1990’s marked a period of building and renovation for the school, including new facilities for elementary classrooms, science, and administration. Playing fields and playgrounds were constructed along the way. The summer of 2006 marked a complete interior redesign and refurbishing of Woodland’s classrooms and corridors, most notably the addition of interior windows to create a physical sense of openness, community, and pride in sharing what goes on in our rooms. In the fall of 2014, Woodland added a new middle school building and completed an overhaul and modernization of the Early Childhood classrooms to meet the needs of the twenty-first-century student.

Woodland’s enrollment is approximately 320 students of average to exceptional ability. Class size limits are set at fourteen Little Woodland students (2K), sixteen pre-kindergartners, sixteen junior kindergartners, eighteen senior kindergartners, and twenty first through eighth graders. Two-year-old kindergarten, Pre-kindergarten, junior kindergarten, and senior kindergarten classrooms have both lead teachers and teaching assistants. Woodland’s teachers average fourteen years of experience and are highly regarded in the community for current knowledge in their fields and commitment to the well-being of children. In addition to their core curriculum, students benefit from specialized instruction in art, music, technology, Bible, library, foreign languages, Science lab, and physical education. 

Children who attend Woodland come from a wide geographic area representing over thirty zip codes. The school shares both a campus and a spiritual mission with Woodland Presbyterian Church, whose staff regularly speak during our chapel services.While the school is open to children of all faiths, it shares a spiritual relationship, including chapel services, Biblical training, and views of Christian practice with Woodland Presbyterian Church. Woodland believes education is a collaborative effort among teachers, students, and their families and encourages open communication with parents and embraces their participation in the day-to-day life of the school.
